Namibia beat South Africa by 18 runs in Windhoek after making 163 for nine and restricting South Africa to 145 for nine. Jan Frylinck and Louren Steenkamp gave Namibia 57 in the powerplay; South Africa replied with 34 for two.

It was Namibia’s second win in two T20Is against South Africa, following their last-ball victory in October 2025.

Namibia make 163 after a fast start

Frylinck made 60 from 38 balls and Steenkamp 41 from 29 in an 84-run opening stand. Namibia then slipped from 116 for two to 133 for six before Ruben Trumpelmann’s 12 from six balls lifted the total to 163 for nine.

South Africa chose to field, but Namibia’s powerplay gave them a total to defend.

Namibia’s bowlers defend the total

Dewald Brevis made 75 from 50 balls for South Africa, but nobody else passed Duan Jansen’s unbeaten 25. Trumpelmann removed two top-order batters and returned to dismiss Brevis at 133 for six, finishing with three for 24. JJ Smit took three for 31.

South Africa’s side was a development-heavy senior squad rather than their strongest available XI. Namibia still executed the match well: they won the powerplay, took wickets through the chase and closed out the final overs.

A second win at the new Windhoek ground

FNB Namibia Cricket Ground staged its first international in March 2025 and was formally inaugurated against South Africa that October. The 7,000-seat venue, which includes indoor facilities and a high-performance centre, is due to host matches at the 2027 World Cup.

Namibia have now beaten South Africa there twice in T20Is.

The ODI series comes next

The T20I result did not alter Namibia’s ODI World Cup qualification route. September’s ODIs against South Africa will be a different challenge, and the qualification picture will be decided elsewhere.
