## Two different series, with a tournament between them

The arrangement makes the February matches a chance to establish T20 combinations before the Champions Trophy. It gives both teams competitive internationals in which to assess batting roles, bowling options and fielding plans before a separate event.

The March assignment will ask for a change of approach. ODI batting requires partnerships to last longer, and bowlers must plan for different phases across a fifty-over innings. The teams will have to make that adjustment after the demands of tournament cricket.

That sequence is worth following as a whole. Decisions made during the T20Is may be designed for the immediate tournament, while the ODI series will need to stand on its own requirements. A player useful in one role will not necessarily be asked to do the same job in the other format.

For supporters, the fixture announcement supplies the dates and grounds to put in the calendar. Squad selections and match timings will add the next practical details. The schedule itself gives England and Sri Lanka a substantial run of bilateral cricket on either side of February's tournament.
